Cubic zirconia

Cubic zirconia could be said to be the jewel in Pandora's crown, making up the majority of stones we use in our jewellery. It's usually colourless and optically looks like a diamond, only slightly less brilliant, however it's still optically flawless.

Shopping responsibly

The environmental cost of a cubic zirconia is less than 0.001% of that of a mined diamond, largely due to the vastly smaller quantity of energy required to produce cubic zirconia.

Appearance

To the untrained eye, a cubic zirconia looks so much like a diamond most people can’t tell the difference. Optically flawless and usually colourless – the equivalent to a ‘D’ on a diamond colour grading scale – cubic zirconia possesses less brilliance than a diamond, but more flashes of colour. Cubic zirconia can also be created in a rainbow of colours by adding different metal oxides to the growth process. While cubic zirconia can be made to order and the colour is homogenous, in lighter hues such as pink and purple, small colour variations may be present.

Durability

Scoring 8.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness and with good toughness, cubic zirconia is highly durable and suitable for use on all types of jewellery.
