Diamond

It's been said they are a girl's best friend but how much do you know about how diamonds are formed? A diamond is a crystalline mineral made of pure carbon, and can either be created hundreds of kilometres beneath the earth’s surface under intense heat and pressure, or in a lab by carefully replicating nature’s process.

Fact: 1 of 3

A superior stone

Measured on the Mohs scale used to assess hardness of minerals, diamond sits at the top of the scale, rated 10. The hardest substance known to man, diamond has superior resistance to scratching and chemicals.

Fact: 2 of 3

Certified mined diamond

The mined diamonds used in Pandora jewellery are sourced from suppliers who are certified members of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC).

Fact: 3 of 3

Standardised terminology

Unlike other gemstones, diamonds have an internationally standardised terminology, which allows us to properly determine the quality of the stone.

Lab-created diamonds

Every lab-created diamond used in Pandora jewellery is sustainably created, rather than being drawn from the earth. This means that we know the origin of every unique, hand-cut stone, which are all CarbonNeutral® certified, embodying a brighter future for the diamond industry. Identical to mined diamonds, each lab-created diamond is crafted to perfection by skilled artisans who replicate nature's process above ground. After which, each stone is cut and polished to exceptional standards, creating one-of-a-kind lab-created diamonds that are physically, chemically and optically identical to their mined counterparts.

The four value factors

Diamonds possess qualities that make them easily and systematically evaluated with internationally standardised terminology according to weight, colour, clarity and cut to determine the rarity and value of individual stones. Carat, the diamond's measurement classification, is not to be confused with “karat”, which is the measurement of gold.

Love your stone!

Care for your diamond by avoiding rough handling. When you're not wearing it, store it separately from your other pieces to avoid scratches. Clean it with lukewarm, soapy water and gentle brushing. Ultrasonic cleaners should be used with caution as they can damage heat-treated diamonds and diamonds with imperfections that can’t be seen with the naked eye.
