Pandora commits to be carbon neutral by 2025

In a bid to step up and fight for a better tomorrow, Pandora has committed to three targets to minimise carbon emissions in order to become carbon neutral by 2025. As a business, we understand the pressing importance of the need to act now and do our part for securing a greener future for the present and future generations.

Recognising the need for urgent action, we are committing to the following goals:

- Carbon neutral in our own operations by 2025

- Using 100% renewable energy at our crafting facilities by 2020

- Setting a science-based target to reduce emissions across our full supply chain

Although we mainly use recycled metals and man-made stones in our jewellery already, we want to take the next step to make sure that our business provides a leading example of sustainable operations. 


By ensuring we source 100% renewable energy for our crafting facilities in Thailand by the end of 2020 and becoming carbon neutral by 2025, we are trying to do our part to solve the challenges facing the planet today. 


Similarly, by  committing to set science-based targets, we are considering Pandora's full impact across the full supply chain and beyond our own operations. This means that greenhouse gas emissions are on the agenda when it comes to all of our touchpoints. We will conduct new research with external experts in 2020 to understand our collective carbon footprint and take action to minimise it in line with what climate science says is necessary.

Pandora is a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). We take an ethical approach to crafting jewellery, following responsible business practices and continuously looking at ways to minimise our environmental impact. We also recognise our duty to respect human rights and ensure proper working conditions for our people. Pandora’s Human Rights Policy stipulates our commitment to the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and the core conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO).

About the Responsible Jewellery Council

The RJC is an international not-for-profit standards and certification organisation. It has more than 1,100 member companies that span the jewellery supply chain. Pandora has been an active member of the RJC since 2010 and a certified member since 2012.


During this time, we have implemented and contributed to the RJC Code of Practices (COP), which addresses business ethics, human rights, labour rights, environmental impact, mining practices, product disclosure and many other important topics. As a certified member, we pledge to positively impact and influence the industry.

Pandora jewellery is designed with great attention to sustainability. Our hand-finished products make a difference in the industry, on the high street and to the environment in which we operate. Every Pandora customer can be confident in the quality of our jewellery as well as the materials we use to craft each piece. We work closely with our suppliers to ensure that they live up to our ethical standards concerning human and labour rights, environmental impact and fair and honest business practices.

Pandora in Thailand

Thailand is one of the world’s largest jewellery exporting countries and has a long tradition of producing high-quality jewellery. This in combination with a good infrastructure and easy access to raw materials and suppliers makes it an ideal place for crafting Pandora jewellery. Our standardised production process combines modern production techniques with centuries-old craftsmanship techniques. With a highly skilled workforce in-house, we are able to produce high-quality jewellery at competitive salary levels.

Growing in all categories

While Pandora is growing in other jewellery categories like Necklaces, Rings and Earrings, the Charm Bracelet is still the our biggest product category  accounting for nearly three quarters of revenue. In 2018, Pandora sold more than 280,000 pieces of jewellery per day.

Planet

Minimising our environmental impact

At Pandora, we see waste as resources that can be reused and shared with other industries to help our planet. And we continuously work to reduce the emissions from our operations, while increasing our efficiency and improving our sustainability. We work diligently to minimise our environmental impact. Some of the many Pandora initiatives include remelting all discontinued products, recycling more than 80% of our crafting waste and continuously working to enhance the efficiency of our energy and water consumption.

Our modern crafting facilities in Thailand, located in Bangkok and Lamphun in Northern Thailand, provide safe, healthy and engaging working conditions for more than 14,000 people. Today, Pandora is the largest manufacturer of jewellery worldwide. Our fully-owned crafting facilities sit under the Pandora Production Thailand (PPT) umbrella. With two LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) crafting facilties, our consumption of energy and water is considered highly efficient and well below the average in the luxury, apparel and accessories sectors.

Inspirational collaboration

Pandora was the official sponsor of the Youth Fashion Summit (YFS) 2018. The YSF is a sustainability education and idea-generation platform, giving students moving into the fashion industry a platform, tools and the opportunity to influence the decisions that will be made today and felt tomorrow.

Ensuring proper working conditions for our people

People are the heartbeat of Pandora and our future. Our dedicated colleagues collaborate to create and bring to life something really special: responsibly crafted hand-finished jewellery celebrating women’s self-expression. We are committed to taking care of our people and empowering their talents.

At the heart of Pandora Production Thailand (PPT) are the goldsmiths, silversmiths, stone-setters and other colleagues who craft our jewellery.

We actively strive to attract and retain a highly talented, passionate, diversified and confident pride of individuals capable of designing, crafting and selling our jewellery through more than 7,700 points of sale worldwide, of which 2,700 are Pandora Concept Stores.

Our crafting facilities in Thailand are certified according to some of the highest health, safety and environmental standards, and our craftspeople are offered safe, developing job opportunities and competitive wage and benefit packages, which include healthy meals, bus transportation and maternity classes.
